Welcome to Worcester Earn-a-Bike

Earn-a-Bike recently gave a presentation about starting a community bike shop at the Bioneers By the Bay Conference in New Bedford, MA. Here is a link to our power point.

New Shop Location!

Finally, after more than two months of trying to find a clean, well-lighted space for Earn-a-Bike to resume normal operations, we have found a space on Cambridge Street that will suit our needs.  It is a retail building with a walk-out basement around the back where we can set up.  1000 sq. ft., heat, bathroom, lights; and we can configure the space as needed.  The walkout basement opens on to a small parking lot, and is on a quiet side street, so it is a great place to ride and test bikes.  Being right around the corner from Webster Square/Bicycle Alley, and next to the Price Chopper, it is also very convenient to many of our EAB regulars. The new space is at 34 Cambridge St. (rear), and we'll be announcing our new hours as soon as we can get the space ready.  Can't wait to see you all back at the shop!

Worcester Earn-a-Bike is a community program dedicated to teaching people bicycle maintenance while enabling them to earn a bike from our inventory of donated bicycles. Everyone ages 9 and up is welcome.

Worcester Earn-a-Bike is a non-profit community based bicycle program. Our mission is to teach fun, affordable bike repair to neighborhood youth and community members by providing tools, instruction, and repairable bikes and parts. We encourage bike riding as an empowering, economical, and healthy alternative to car culture.

Our earn-a-bike program provides donated bicycles and parts. Participants can choose a bike to earn after volunteering five hours towards our shop operation: for instance, removing and organizing parts, building bikes for donation or sale, or general help in the shop. We provide a teaching environment that allows people of all ages to learn repair and maintenance skills specific to bicycles as well as more general skills, instilling confidence far beyond the bike stand. We operate as an open shop where anyone can come and volunteer in exchange for parts and skills to earn a bike or fix up their own bike. We try to keep a reasonable student-to-teacher ratio: please be aware that our space limitations will sometimes require us to ask that people come back later if we have reached our limit.

Our shop is located at 34 Cambridge St (rear), Worcester, MA 01603. The shop entrance is around the back of the building.

There are no Shop hours now, but check our calendar for the latest updates. Shop hours will resume before the end of February!
